LONDON*Brazil launches international campaign against wild animal trafficking

The Ministry of the Environment (MMA) and the Brazilian Network Against Wild Animal Trafficking (RENCTAS), supported by the Ministry of Foreign Relations, have launched the International Campaign Against Wild Animal Trafficking.


Protected species

The campaign aims to mobilise the international community to fight against wildlife trafficking. This illegal trade has a significant adverse impact on biodiversity, particularly in developing countries.

According to the findings of the First National Report Against Wild Animal Trafficking, compiled by RENCTAS and MMA:

The illegal trade in wild animals amounts to between US$ 10 billion and US$ 20 billion a year worldwide - only the illegal arms and drugs trades are more lucrative.

Between 5% and 15% of illegally traded species are Brazilian.
