The FCC - Federal Communications Commission is considering changing the ownership rules for television, radio and newspapers. If the ownership rules are loosened or eliminated, we could see changes such as:

One company could own two TV stations in the same market, enabling it to merge and shrink local news staffs;
One media company could own many more TV stations than is it is now permitted to do, threatening smaller station groups that studies find often do a better job covering local news;
One company could own both a television station and a newspaper in the same community, shrinking citizens' sources of information.
The public owns the TV and radio airwaves, but these rules changes wouldn't benefit the public.
